Insects As Protein

The Commission is counting on cattle and other large animals being an increasingly untenable source of protein in decades to come, and hopes that some research group will be able to devise ways to convince people to eat insects despite the inherent "yuck" value.

The European Commission has created a contest with a whopping $4.32 million dollar prize to anyone that produces a plan to help encourage people to consume insects as a popular protein substitute.  Wow.  Good luck with that...

The Commission believes that as the population of Earth increases and as more and more people live longer we may be faced with a shortage of cattle, seafood, fowl and other common western protein sources.  The contest's goal is to find a way to help people overcome the 'yuck' factor that many westerners may have concerning eating insects.

Ready for McBug Burgers?

Did you think you could eat a worm burrito?  How about a lavae patty?  Despite the FDA's best efforts, did you know that many of our foods may have insects ground up in them already?

I wonder if we will soon see MMA fighters blending ants with spiders for a healthy post workout meal.  Or how about seeing the Fresno State Football team snacking on grasshopper ski kabob sticks on the sideline?  Stranger things have happened.
